Join other local bike riders and learn the practical skills you need to start riding on the road safely and with confidence. The Urban Cycling Confidence course covers bike control skills and road rules, with time to practise in a traffic-free area. You'll leave with the confidence to start riding your bike to work, uni or your local shops or for the school drop-off! When: Sunday 24 November, 10am-3pm (with half-hour lunch break) Where: La Trobe University Tennis Courts, Bundoora Cost: $15-$25 Find out more and book your place.

Friendly bike mechanics will do a 20-minute safety check of your bike, talking through what they are doing and giving you tips to look after your bike. They’ll make minor adjustments and repairs, and recommendations for further work if necessary. When: Saturday September 21 and Saturday October 19, 12.30-3.30pm Where: WeCycle Bike Hub, Batman Park, Northcote When: Sunday September 22 and Sunday October 27, 12.30-3.30pm Where: Reservoir Leisure Centre, Reservoir Book your Free Bike Check. This one's perfect for young riders needing a bit of guidance and balance bike enthusiasts seeking motivation! Trainers from Learn to Ride Australia will guide your child through a mix of playful balance games, practical riding techniques, and practice around the scenic wetlands. Jika Jika Community Centre's Bikes to Work program provides a fun opportunity for young people (14–19 years) to learn real world bike mechanic skills and workplace practices from a qualified bike mechanic and youth worker.
The two-day intensive school holiday program is ideal for young people who are interested in bikes or working as a bike mechanic. Participants will learn basic workshop skills and receive a $50 voucher, plus a reference to give to potential employers. When: Thursday 29 September and Friday 30 September, 9.30am–5pm Where: Jika in the Park, 2 East Street, Northcote Cost: Free, registration is essential Register for Bikes to Work holiday intensive.

Darebin BUG (Bicycle User Group) is one of Melbourne’s most active social riding groups with weekly rides departing Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for riders with a range of abilities.
For this introductory ride, meet members of Darebin BUG in Northcote and ride with the group to Bundoora Park Cafe. You’ll enjoy a FREE hot beverage and muffin courtesy of Darebin Council. Ride on to Coburg Lake (BYO lunch) or return to Northcote.
